Education Stream

Overview

Education Stream is one of the five streams in RCTE. Education stream has a total of 17 instructors who instruct professional courses in the college. The stream has nine curriculum professional studies instructors, two educational planning and management instructors, five psychology instructors with various specializations namely: social psychology, counseling psychology, organizational psychology, developmental psychology & one special need inclusive education instructor.

The Education stream instructors instruct professional courses which enable the prospective teachers of primary schools competent enough. These professional courses help the prospective teachers to:

  • Use different psychological approaches and procedures to treat the students of different backgrounds and needs;
  • Use different mechanisms and methods to teach diversified class room, evaluate and improve teaching learning program;
  • Create conducive environment to undergo effective and efficient teaching-learning process;
  • Apply different approaches, methods and techniques to deliver the subjects in line with the age of the students;

In a nut shell, education stream aimed at training the prospective teachers to:

  • Know the student and how they learn
  • Know the context and how to teach
  • Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning in diversified class/es
  • Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environment

Access, provide feedback and report in students learning, etc

Education Stream

Overview

Department of curriculum is one of the four departments found in Education Stream of Robe college of teachers education. It consists of nine professional teachers (instructors)   graduated in MA by one of the courses offered   under the department. The courses delivered to all students in the college by the department aimed at capacitating teachers’ professional development .Some of the courses given to the college students are curriculum and general teaching and learning in primary school (TECS. 112), sociological perspective on teaching and learning (TECS. 222), cross cutting issues in education (Educ.301), action research in primary school (ACR. 301), Instructional media and information communication technology (ImICT.341).

 In addition the department coordinates some unites working on teachers’ professional development in the college such as higher diploma program, teachers’ continuous professional development(CPD), Linkage Coordinating Unit (LCU), Practicum and the like. Moreover the department coordinates and gives short term training in cooperation with government and non-government organizations. Some of the thematic areas that have been directed by the department for primary schools teachers under CPD program are early child hood learning, active learning methods, continuous assessment methods, how to conduct action research in primary school and any related topics regarding teaching and learning .Lastly, the department has maximum commitment to capacitates primary school teachers on the actual work and invite any voluntary organization or individual who have similar objectives to work with us.

Overview

Especial Need Education has been launched in the college for the purpose of training teachers for primary schools to deliver education for students with disabilities, in consideration of their individual educational needs, which aims at full development of their capabilities and at their independence and social participation. Accordingly, the department is giving trainings for pre-service (regular and evening program) students and in-service (summer program) students.

Vision of the Department

  • In the next years, it is the plan of the department to give quality education that enriches the student-teachers in how to deliver Special Need Education at primary schools and handle students with special needs.
  • The department has a plan to give trainings for primary school teachers on how to teaching and treating students with special needs to solve problems in this area.

Mission of the Department

  • To train primary school teachers that are equipped with basic knowledge on how to teaching and dealing with students with special needs;
  • To conduct different researches to solve problems observed in this area and to train primary school teachers to inform them with basic issues about the aim of Special Need Education;

Moreover, it is the plan of the department to conduct scientific researches to solve the problems in teaching and learning process of Special Need Education;

Overview

Inclusive education department is one of the departments in Robe College of Teachers' Education (RCTE) under Education Stream aimed at training primary school teachers to welcome students by their neighborhood schools in age-appropriate, regular classes and are supported to learn, contribute and participate in all aspects of the life of the school. In the College the department offers education as common courses for all students regardless their streams and specific departments.

Vision of the Department

  • As a department it is planned to give quality education to enhance the knowledge of student-teachers that can help them to implement practically at primary schools;
  • The department has a plan to train student-teachers that can support all students to participate in the learning-teaching process;

Mission of the Department

  • To train student-teachers for primary schools to offer inclusive education for all students;

To conduct different researches for the purpose of solving problems faced by primary school teachers in relation to inclusive education;

Department of Psychology is one of the departments in the education stream. Currently, the department of Psychology has five professional lecturers in it, specializing in different field of Psychology areas of specialization. The names of the fields of specialization areas are:

  1. Counseling psychology
  2. Social psychology
  3. Organizational psychology and
  4. Developmental psychology

In general the department of Psychology has eight lecturers, five from psychology department, one from special needs & inclusive education and two from educational planning & management department.

The department gives courses related to school management. The students here gain the major managerial skills that use to manage, and supervise the primary schools.
