Social Science Stream

Social science stream is one of the known streams from the five streams of the college. Social science stream encompasses a total of 9 instructors. The stream has 4 Geography instructors, two History and three Civic and Ethical Education instructors.

Mission and Vision of the Department

The Department of Geography aspires to become a center of excellence in the pursuit of knowledge in the interaction of the human and physical environments, and as such, aims at providing the highest quality education in an applied and career-oriented approach at the basic to advanced levels, with dedication to create and maintain an intellectually vital learning and research community that focuses on producing well informed, productive, creative, open-minded, and ethically responsible professionals.

The mission of the Department of Geography is consistent with the missions of RCTE. As such, the Department is committed to achieve the followings:

  • Create, develop, and maintain an open and challenging intellectual atmosphere that engages students and faculty in continuing discourse, with focus on excellence in the pursuit of knowledge on human-environment interactions to produce scientifically competent and environmentally conscious graduates;
  • Provide students with the highest quality education that will equip them with the critical reasoning and the state of the art technical skills that will enable them to analyze and understand an increasingly complex and interconnected world;
  • Nurture gender equality, tolerance and mutual respect inside and outside of the classroom;
  • Create close working relationships between the academic staff, students and administrative workers to facilitate understanding and to foster a sound teaching-learning environment that encourages the exchange of academic experiences;
  • Conduct research
  • Enhance Geographic and environmental knowledge, improve the teaching-learning process
  • Provide short-term training services

Overview

In terms of mission and objectives, the Department has always aimed at giving students a real understanding of the region, country’s own history in the context of Africa and the world. The department trains students as teachers for primary schools, high schools and tertiary level institutions and for other stakeholders. The aim of history department is also to produce intelligent graduates with historical and analytical skills and that the graduates should be good citizens.

Vision of the Department

  • As department of History, for the next five years, it will give quality education that enrich the trainee to know the historical background of peoples, nations and nationalities of Ethiopia. In addition, the department dedicated to work on how the pupils understand and apply ethnic and religious tolerance in multi-Ethnic states.
  • By using values and important conditions available in the Bale Zone, the department has a plan to develop and establish training and research centers on the culture and heritage of Oromo people. In turn, this value positively affects the history of Ethiopian peoples.

Mission of the Department

  • To train teachers with high academic potential in the discipline of History, Excellent teaching profession and who have rational views,
  • Gradually, the department has a design to upgrade its level to train under graduate (first degree) of history teachers in a native language: Afan Oromo;
  • To investigate and make detailed researches on the historical values of Bale zone;
  • At the end, the department has a plan to solve the general problems in teaching and learnig process(in teaching history) through scientific research;

Overview

The Department of Civics and Ethical study is launched in the college under Social Science Stream for the purpose of giving training for student-teachers to equip them with basic knowledge intended ethical issues and make them good citizens. Accordingly, the department has the following missions and visions that are accomplished along with the teaching-learning process.

 

 

Mission of the Department

  • Training student-teachers who are efficient and competent in teaching at primary schools in the region;
  • Cultivating primary school teachers who are ethical and good citizens;
  • Training student-teachers to make them understand the image of their society, region, country, etc;

Vision of the Department

  • Conducting researches which can solve related problems that can appear in society;
  • Preparing trainings for school teachers and other concerned bodies to give clear understanding about Civics and Ethical Studies as one of the subject areas;
  • Working in collaboration with different organizations, offices and other concerned bodies who are acting in this area;
